MEDIA RELEASE - ANZAC DAY COMMEMORATION GRANTS RECEIVED

The Flinders Ranges Council has been successful in its funding applications for two grants through the ANZAC Day Commemoration Fund for projects in Quorn and Cradock. The Fund is administered by Veterans SA, a South Australian Government agency that provides support to the veteran community and the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, and supports projects with the purpose of educating the community about the significance of Australia’s military history.

The first of the grants will enable The Flinders Ranges Council to commission the development of a new projection for inclusion in the award-winning Quorn Silo Light Show in the lead up to ANZAC Day each year. The production, ANZAC Reflections, will honour the men and women from Quorn and the surrounding area who served in ‘The Great War’ 1914 – 1918. The production will incorporate illustrations and synchronised moving images, combined with a narrative and soundtrack to create a unique storytelling experience.

The second grant will be auspiced by Council on behalf of the Cradock Heritage Group and will see a unique sculpture installed in the Cradock Memorial Garden. The sculpture will honour the Light Horsemen recruited during the First World War from country areas across Australia, including the district of Cradock, which provided members for the 3rd, 4th, 7th, 9th, and 11th Light Horse Regiments.

Mayor Ken Anderson is delighted with the outcome and looks forward to seeing these two important commemorative projects come to fruition. “We anticipate that the new component of the Quorn Silo Light Show will be projected in the evenings leading up to ANZAC Day 2024. It will be a moving addition to our annual ANZAC Day service and recognition of those who served” he said.

Mayor Anderson added “The Flinders Ranges Council is happy to auspice the grant for the Cradock Heritage Group. Over recent years the group has put a great deal of time and effort into the development of what is now a very impressive War Memorial Garden in the township of Cradock. Council is proud to support the Group and commends them on their outstanding work. The sculpture that will be commissioned and installed through this funding will be a unique addition to this special place.”
