A new GP has been secured for the Quorn Medical Practice, ensuring continued health and wellbeing for the community.
The Flinders Ranges Council Mayor, Ken Anderson is delighted to announce the collaboration between Council and Country and Outback Health (CObH) to secure the new doctor for the Quorn Medical Practice with the medical professional seeing their first local patients on 22 April 2024.
“I congratulate the CObH who have fought so hard for the Quorn and surrounding communities to secure a Doctor for the practice and that Council has been such an important ally supporting them in this important endeavour.  This major advocacy win underscores our shared commitment to providing accessible and high-quality medical care.
“Their presence is a testament to the attractiveness, liveability, growth and development of Quorn and reinforces the town’s commitment to prioritising the health and happiness of its residents. Council will continue to work with CObH to ensure the Doctor has full social and professional support”, Mayor Anderson said.
CObH CEO, Zieco Sheldon echoed Mayor Anderson’s sentiments and said "When a GP chooses to work in a small community, it's a powerful commitment to care where it's deeply needed. These areas often struggle with healthcare access, and a GP's presence can truly make a difference. They don't just provide medical services; they become part of the community, understanding and addressing its unique health needs. It's a genuine act of service, highlighting the crucial, heartfelt role GPs play in improving lives in country areas. CObH is very proud of our partnerships and commitment to bringing Dr Mlawanda to the Practice and thank the Rural Doctors Workforce Agency for its support throughout the process."
As the community has eagerly awaited this positive announcement, Mayor Anderson assures residents that The Flinders Ranges Council will remain actively involved in promoting and sustaining excellent healthcare services for the benefit of all.
The Flinders Ranges Council will hold a community meet and greet for Dr Mlawanda on Wednesday 17 April 2024 from 1.00 pm – 2.30pm in the Quorn Arts Precinct and invites all community members along for an informal chat and sausage sizzle.
