Media Release - ANZAC Reflections - Lest We Forget
The Quorn Silos will be lit up with a new projection “ANZAC Reflections – Lest We Forget” from 20-28 April 2024 with a premiere on ANZAC Day, to honour the men and women from Quorn and the surrounding area who enlisted for service in World War 1.
The Flinders Ranges Council, in collaboration with illuminart – Stories in Light, is proud to unveil poignant visual tribute to the locals who answered the call of duty in “The War to End All Wars”.
Mayor, Ken Anderson explains that this immersive experience serves as a heartfelt homage to those who made the ultimate sacrifice, ensuring their memory lives on for generations to come. “Anzac Reflections” stands as a testament to the unwavering courage displayed by the local community during wars and conflicts. Through a combination of captivating visuals, personal anecdotes and historical photographs, this commemoration offers a deeply moving insight into the lives of those who served”. Mayor Anderson said.
Members of the local community, including the Quorn Local History Group, provided many of the photographs and shared personal stories of loved ones for inclusion in the project.
As part of the Quorn Silo Light Show, “Anzac Reflections” will project over nine days from 20 – 28 April 2024 with an additional two (2) special screenings taking place at 5.30am and 5.40am on ANZAC Day, 25 April 2024.
Mayor Anderson also said that research is still being undertaken to complete the project, “In the months ahead, the projection will expand its scope to honour the service and sacrifice of men and women in all conflicts. This evolving tribute will be screened on significant occasions such as ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day each year, ensuring that the legacy of our brave servicemen and women endures.”
ANZAC Day Ceremonies will be held across The Flinders Ranges Council area with a dawn service at the Cradock War Memorial from 6.30am, an 8.00am service at the Hawker War Memorial and a 10.45am service at the Quorn War Memorial. The Quorn Courthouse will be open, following the Quorn service, and will have war memorabilia on display.
