Media Release - Caring For Those Who Care
$14,718 in grant funding strengthening community, supporting volunteers, celebrating seniors.
Supporting Our Volunteers in Quorn
The Flinders Ranges Council auspiced a grant for the Quorn Hospital Auxiliary through the Department of Human Services SA Social Impact Round 1 which enabled the installation of two reverse cycle air conditioners in the Quorn Town Hall kitchen area.
This kitchen is regularly used by the dedicated members of the Quorn Hospital Auxiliary, who prepare countless meals for community events, including the Mayor’s Christmas Luncheon and a range of fundraising activities that support senior and disadvantaged residents across the district.
The new air conditioning will significantly improve comfort and safety in the kitchen, particularly during extreme weather events. Volunteers often work long hours in challenging conditions, and this upgrade ensures they can continue their important work in a safer and more supportive environment.
Celebrating Seniors Across the Region
Funding has also been secured from the Department of Human Services - Office for Ageing Well to deliver the Flinders Ranges first Seniors Week celebration from 14–21 June 2026.
This exciting initiative will feature a host of engaging, seniors-focused activities designed to promote wellbeing and connection. Events will be inclusive and family-friendly, encouraging intergenerational participation and celebrating the important role seniors play in our communities.
Seniors Week 2026 will be an opportunity for the entire region to come together and recognise the contributions, resilience and wisdom of our older residents.
Mayor Ken Anderson said Council is focused on ensuring the region continues to secure opportunities that directly benefit the community. “The Flinders Ranges Council remains committed to actively pursuing funding opportunities that strengthen community wellbeing, enhance local facilities, and support the people who make our region such a special place to live. By investing in comfort, connection and celebration, Council is proud to be caring for those who care and honouring the seniors who have shaped the Flinders Ranges we know today.”
