Successful 44th Mindfull Aus Pichi Richi Marathon Draws Strong Crowd
The 44th Mindfull Aus Pichi Richi Marathon, held on Sunday 28 June 2026, was a resounding success, with 376 participants crossing the finish line across the day's events.
The Flinders Ranges Council is delighted with the strong turnout, which exceeded participation numbers from 2025. Mayor Ken Anderson said, “Given the uncertainty surrounding rising fuel prices and the potential impact on travel, it was especially pleasing to see so many runners and supporters make the journey to be part of this year's event.”
The marathon once again showcased the spirit, determination and camaraderie of the running community, with participants of all ages and abilities taking on the iconic Pichi Richi course.
Mayor Anderson passed on his congratulations to all race winners for the day and especially to our 2026 Full Marathon champions, David Staehr and Willowa Atkins, who competed in a large field of 56.
“A heartfelt congratulations also goes to every participant who took part, whether they were aiming for a personal best or simply enjoying the challenge and unique experience of the Pichi Richi Marathon.” Mayor Anderson said.
“The success of the event would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of the organising committee, volunteers and supporters. Their commitment behind the scenes and on event day ensured another safe and enjoyable marathon for everyone involved.”
“Special thanks are extended to South Australia Police and St John Ambulance for their invaluable assistance in helping keep participants, volunteers and spectators safe throughout the event.”
With another successful marathon now complete, planning is already underway for next year. Runners are encouraged to mark Sunday 27 June 2027 in their calendars and start their training for the 45th running of the Pichi Richi Marathon.
