2026 Flood Event and Road Condition Information

The Flinders Ranges Council region experienced unprecedented rainfall events on 22 and 28 February 2026, resulting in widespread damage across our entire road network. Every road in our region has been impacted in some way.

Council crews have worked tirelessly to restore access and ensure residents can reach their properties. While many roads are now open, some have sustained significant damage and may pose hazards to motorists and visitors.

Several roads remain single-lane access only, and conditions can change quickly.

We ask that all motorists:

  • Drive with care and caution at all times
  • Obey all hazard signage and traffic controls
  • Be mindful of uneven surfaces, washouts, and soft edges and other hazards

To help reduce pressure on damaged roads, local traffic only is encouraged where possible.

As we head into the Easter and School Holiday period, we warmly welcome visitors to our region. We simply ask that you:

  • Take your time on our roads
  • Drive to conditions
  • Plan ahead and allow extra travel time

At this stage, major repair works cannot yet begin. Council is working closely with State and Federal Governments to secure funding for the full recovery of our road network. The damage is significant—estimated at over $10 million—which is substantial for a small Council.

We understand the frustration, and we ask for your patience and understanding.

Access is our priority, and full repairs will follow as soon as funding is confirmed.

Your patience and cooperation are essential as we continue recovery works.

The roads that are CLOSED TO ALL TRAFFIC are marked on the below map in RED. This is current as of 15 July 2026 and will be updated as the situation changes.  Namely, these roads are:
