Quorn Community Courts Shine Brighter Following Lighting Upgrade

The Flinders Ranges Council is pleased to announce the successful completion of the lighting upgrade at the Quorn Community Courts, made possible through $19,400 in grant funding from the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing.

The project was delivered through a collaborative partnership between Council and local sporting groups, including the Quorn Cricket Club, Quorn Netball Club and Quorn Tennis Club, with each club contributing $2,500 towards the upgrade. This shared investment reflects the strong commitment of local organisations to enhancing community sporting facilities.

Quorn Cricket Club Secretary Richard Paynter said the club was proud to support a project that benefits the broader community, "Although the new lights at the tennis and netball courts aren't directly linked to our cricket activities, we're proud to support this project because it helps people in the community stay active, healthy and connected."

The installation of the new energy-efficient lighting has transformed the courts into a safer, more accessible and welcoming space for the community. Improved visibility now allows the courts to be used well into the evening, creating greater opportunities for sport, recreation and social connection across all age groups.

Since the completion of the project, the upgraded courts have been embraced by the local sporting clubs, with members making full use of the new lighting for training, competition and community activities.

Quorn Netball Club representative Sarah Kruger said the upgraded lighting had already improved the club's training environment, "The new lights have made a huge difference to our training sessions. It's exciting to have facilities that support our players now and into the future."

Quorn Tennis Club representative Renata Hackett said the timing of the project was ideal following the club's recent revival, "The Quorn Tennis Club was re-established in 2025, with Friday night social tennis playing a vital role in getting the club restarted. These new lights are going to make a huge difference to the 2026–27 season."

The improved facilities have also encouraged increased casual use by families, young people and social groups, further strengthening Quorn's active and connected community.

The enhanced lighting also benefits major visiting groups such as Variety WA and Bicycle SA, who regularly incorporate the Quorn Oval into their touring programs. With improved access to the courts after dark, these groups can now include additional recreational activities in their itineraries, enhancing the visitor experience while supporting local tourism and the regional economy.

Mayor Ken Anderson said the completed project demonstrates the value of collaboration and shared investment in community infrastructure, "This project is a fantastic outcome for Quorn and demonstrates what can be achieved when Council, local sporting clubs and funding partners work together. The contributions from each club reflect their commitment to providing quality facilities for the community.

"It is wonderful to see the project now complete, with our sporting clubs making full use of the new lighting and the wider community enjoying the improved courts. These upgrades not only encourage greater participation in sport and recreation but also help build a stronger, healthier and more connected community."

The Flinders Ranges Council thanks the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing, Quorn Cricket Club, Quorn Netball Club and Quorn Tennis Club for their valued partnership and contribution to delivering this important community project.
