Registrations for the 44th Mindfull Aus Pichi Richi Marathon are Now Open

Set for Sunday 28 June 2026, The Flinders Ranges Council is now inviting runners and walkers from across the nation to experience one of South Australia’s most challenging, scenic and community-spirited events.

The award-winning marathon proudly organised by Council, is done so in partnership with key stakeholders and sponsors. The event would not be possible without the extraordinary support of volunteer groups such as the Port Augusta Lions Club, Port Augusta Parkrun, and many individuals who generously give their time both before and on race day.

Each year, the event attracts strong visitation, with 85% travelling from outside the Flinders Ranges region. Based on South Australian Tourism Commission data for 2025, domestic visitors spend on average $190 per night which equates to an economic injection of around $72,000 from visitors staying an average of 1.5 nights.

Mayor Anderson said, “This strong financial injection into the local economy is a huge boost for a small town. Many of these local businesses also throw their support behind the event and it’s great to see them being rewarded which assists them in grow and expand, and also in a bigger exposure for their businesses. With over 92% of last year’s participants saying they would take part again, we look to them staying longer and taking in more of this wonderful region.”

In 2025, runners and walkers travelled from as far as Darwin, the east coast of New South Wales, Queensland, and South Coast Victoria. “This shows the national exposure that the Marathon has and as we are known as one of the most challenging, due to the undulating terrain, it’s a marathon that many want to conquer”.

The marathon also offers a unique experience that no other marathon does, you can catch the historical Pichi Richi Railway to the 10.5km start line. “Council is thrilled to partner with the Pichi Richi Railway Preservation Society to provide a point of difference as entrants get to take in the beauty of the Pichi Richi Pass and relax before they hit the road running.”

With a change in finishing line to the CBD people turned out in droves at the finish line to cheer the finishers.

Matt Runnalls, CEO and Founder of Mindfull Aus, the major sponsor of the marathon, is proud to be part of the event and its connection with the community.  “The marathon brings people together and bring hearts, stories and communities closer in ways that are deeply needed.  It promotes connection, movement and mental wellbeing.” Matt said.
