New Partnership Driving the Pichi Richi Marathon Forward
The Pichi Richi Marathon has secured a major new sponsorship partnership, with the Standpipe Golf Motor Inn coming on board as the event’s major sponsor for the next three (3) years.
The announcement comes as the iconic Pichi Richi Marathon prepares to celebrate its 45th running in 2027. The event continues to grow in popularity, attracting runners and participants from across Australia and showcasing the spectacular Flinders Ranges region.
The marathon's reputation as one of South Australia's premier regional sporting events was further cemented in 2025 when it was named the Australian State Winner for Best Small Regional Event at the Australian Event Awards.
Organised by the Flinders Ranges Council, the event is a significant undertaking that brings together an extensive network of volunteers, community organisations, sponsors and supporters to deliver a memorable experience for participants and spectators.
Flinders Ranges Council Mayor Ken Anderson welcomed the new partnership, saying it would provide valuable support and renewed focus for the event. "We are pleased to partner with Dr Devinder Grewal from the Standpipe Golf Motor Inn to support this important regional event. Dr Grewal has been a long-term supporter and sponsor of the marathon, and it is pleasing to have him, his team and staff on board as our major sponsor. The Grewal family has also been involved and a part of this event since its beginnings.”
"It's particularly fitting given the full marathon starts just near his business on the Eyre Highway. In previous years, the Standpipe Golf Motor Inn car park has also been utilised as part of the event, while the venue continues to play an important role in hosting our pre-marathon bib collection and the popular unofficial pre-race dinner. This partnership builds on an established relationship and recognises the importance of local businesses investing in events that bring people into our region."
Dr Devinder Grewal said he was thrilled to extend his involvement in the Pichi Richi Marathon and its ongoing success. "The Pichi Richi Marathon has a wonderful history and has become an important fixture on the regional events calendar. It brings people from all over Australia, creates opportunities for local businesses and gives our community something special to get behind.
"Having supported the event for a number of years, I understand the tremendous effort that goes into making it happen.
