MEDIA RELEASE - CONSTELLATION QUORN, TRAIL OF STORIES IN LIGHT ACROSS REGIONAL SOUTH AUSTRALIA

Published 14th July 2022

Quorn Silo Light Show will illuminate with a special feature each night through August, as one of the five featured Stories in Light sites on the CONSTELLATION Trail around regional South Australia.  The connected trail uses larger than life moving image to explore future themes of science in collaboration with talented artists, animators and innovators across all five regions simultaneously.

The free, family friendly, colourful displays will warm up your winter and bring a smile to all. Projected from sunset each night, the new storylines are unique at each site and are surrounded by other programmed content.

Mayor Greg Flints says that Council is proud to have the Quorn Silo as a part of this regional trail. “The Quorn Silo will light up the night sky with more captivating experiences and even a special transmission from the future with screenings taking place from sunset every night between 1 – 31 August 2022.”

In parallel with these science-themed Stories in Light you can also participate in over thirty inspiring science related events that connect with the projected stories.

“Families, schools or other groups can enjoy learning about each region they visit on the wider Constellation trail.”

Quorn’s Constellation Program brings Science and Art together by uncovering the regions focus on Bush tucker, and revealing a possible future for the region.  A new story about exploring the region is also launched.

“Quorn has three new exciting features with one being a ‘Self-drive Self-fly Adventure’ which takes you on a day out with Kev the Kookaburra and Kev Junior, using modern wi-fly technology to explore and discover their insights about the ancient Flinders Ranges.

“The ‘Pithi Kawi – Quorn Bush Tucker Trail’ story focuses on the arid lands, gorges and peaks and the evolution of edible, useful and delicious plants of the dry far north to survive in extreme conditions, such as the intriguing Quandong and Ruby Saltbush.”

“The future sci-fi story reveals the 3175AD ‘Quorn Bush-Foods Cook-Off’ where Talie records a behind the scenes video and interactions with local celebrity chef Razz highlight their different backgrounds.  An exciting street party brings contestants and town residents together to enjoy the great bush food flavours of the Flinders Ranges.”

Illuminart’s Constellation trail is a new and unique festival trail “under the stars”. Distinct from other existing illumination attractions and building on the success of illuminart’s Travelling Light Show, that wowed audiences throughout regional SA in 2019, Constellation is the first time that a linked series of light shows has been presented simultaneously in Australia. The month-long science themed shines the light on regional artists, community innovators and specialists.

Mayor Flint encourages everyone to “Grab some local tucker, bring your picnic chair or blanket to enjoy the sunset and watch the silo light up!”

Constellation is an all-weather event so come rugged up and bring extra layers.  Come on a road trip of interesting local activities way outside the city limits!  Why not visit all five permanent projection sites at Quorn, Port Pirie, Wallaroo, Karoonda and Barmera?

Proudly brought to you by South Australian projection arts pioneers illuminart and The Flinders Ranges Council with the support of Arts SA and National Science Week.
