Media Release - Hawker War Memorial a Place of Pride
The Hawker War Memorial is set to feature as part of the Australian War Memorial’s Southern Entrance upgrade.
The Flinders Ranges Council’s War Memorials feature on Pride of Places, the National Register of War Memorials, and as a result was chosen as one of the very lucky War Memorials from around the country to feature in a new large screen cinematic film display at the new Southern Entrance of the Australian War Memorial.
Mayor, Ken Anderson says that being part of this project is a huge honour. “Hawker was chosen as one of only 40 locations from across Australia, out of 11,500 memorials on the register, to feature in this exciting project. To say that is an honour is an understatement. “
Filming will take place on 30th May and Council is working with the Australian War Memorial on the format and who will be involved.
“Council will ensure that our part in the project will be memorable and unique to our area and we will work with the community over the coming weeks to lock in the details.”
The Australian War Memorial’s Director, Mr Matt Anderson said “Places of Pride will be a major feature of the new Southern Entrance of the Australian War Memorial. It is a stunning cinematic display connecting the Australian War Memorial to commemoration across Australia. We are pleased to include Hawker War Memorial within this presentation.”
Visitors to the Australian War Memorial can view the presentation from early 2025. For more information about the Australian War Memorial’s plans, visit Our Continuing Story - Australian War Memorial (awm.gov.au).
In conclusion Mayor Anderson said “We are looking forward to our involvement in this integral project and can’t wait to see the final film and are very proud of our community.”
