MAINSTREET(S) FACELIFT PROJECT TO GET UNDERWAY

The Flinders Ranges Council received funding under the National Radioactive Waste Management Facility Community Benefit Programme to undertake a project focused on providing for buildings in the main streets of Quorn, Hawker and Cradock to receive a “facelift”.

Mayor Greg Flint said that the aim of the project is to provide a significant visual lift to the streetscapes in the towns and enhance the regions tourism and residential appeal.

“When you call into any town in Australia, or the world, you head to the main street and central business districts.  You take note of the aesthetic appeal of these which hopefully encourage you to stay longer. This project is focused on doing just that and also encouraging businesses and residents to take pride in their buildings and towns.”

With a total of $200,000 available under the project, matched funding will be made available for eligible properties up to the value of $5,000.

“We are writing to all eligible businesses and residents who are located in the priority areas and encouraging them to take advantage of this opportunity and apply to upgrade their property facades.  The works can include painting, stonework, guttering, window replacement or any other works deemed suitable to match the aims of the project.”

An open Registration of Interest process will see applicants filling out an application form to provide Council with enough information to assess their eligibility and start rolling out the project.

“We are holding only one Registration of Interest round at this stage where all eligible property owners can put their project in for assessment, however, rolling out of the program is focused around priority areas and a focus on businesses in the first instance. Priority assessment will continue until all funds have been expended.” Mr Flint said.

Registrations of Interest will open on Monday 9 August 2021 and will close on Monday 6 September 2021. All relevant information will be forwarded to eligible landowners in the coming days.
