43rd Mindfull Aus Pichi Richi Marathon a resounding success

The 43rd annual Mindfull Aus Pichi Richi Marathon, held on Sunday, 29 June 2025, was a triumphant celebration of endurance, community spirit, and the breathtaking beauty of the Flinders Ranges. With nearly 280 competitors crossing the brand-new finish line in the heart of Quorn, the event marked another successful milestone in South Australia’s iconic marathon calendar.

In perfect conditions for running, David Staehr secured top honours in the Full Marathon – Male category, while Anna Pearce took out first place for the Female division. The cool, calm weather helped create an enjoyable experience for runners, and the new finish line added an exciting and welcoming energy to the final moments of the race.

While some participants initially expressed hesitation about the change in the finish line location, the response following the event has been overwhelmingly positive.

The Flinders Ranges Council Mayor, Ken Anderson, addressed the decision and its success:
“Changing the finish line for a major marathon is a big deal, however, we could see the real potential in moving it to the Quorn CBD and linking in with other events such as the Quorn Markets. It also allowed us to involve local businesses more and create a truly welcoming and supportive atmosphere. We are very pleased with how it all came together and will work onwards and upwards to make it even better for the future.”

“From the registrations and start lines to the water stops and finish line, the event ran as smoothly as we could have wanted it. It was a pleasure to see such a huge crowd of spectators and supporters encouraging the participants as they made their way along the last few hundred metres to the finish line. The new finish line created the perfect environment for just this.”

Mayor Anderson also extended heartfelt thanks to all those who contributed to the event’s success:
“An event like the Pichi Richi Marathon doesn't happen overnight, it takes months and months of hard work, preparation, and coordination by Council staff, in particular Paula Osborn, Race Director. This is backed up by dedicated volunteers such as the Port Augusta Lions Club, without them, this event would not happen. Supporting them are others from the Port Augusta Parkrun, Mission Australia, and the Port Augusta and Quorn communities who braved the weather all day at the water stations. Along with these we must thank SA Police, St John and SA Ambulance Service for providing an important community service and looking after the safety and welfare of our participants. We really can't thank them all enough.”

Looking ahead, the new finish line in the Quorn CBD appears to be a permanent fixture, with promising prospects for the marathon’s continued growth. “We are keen to see the event grow in status and participation and to continue to stimulate the local economy,” Mayor Anderson concluded.

The Mindfull Aus Pichi Richi Marathon continues to promote health and wellbeing and is a testament to the power of community collaboration.
