NEW FINISH LINE FOR THE PICHI RICHI MARATHON

Already successful regional marathon set to become even better with NEW features.

The Pichi Richi Marathon Committee, in conjunction with The Flinders Ranges Council, has set itself ambitious new objectives and goals as it looks to lift the profile of the event.  The key change is to move the finish line for the Pichi Richi Marathon to the Quorn CBD.

The 43rd Mindfull Aus Pichi Richi Marathon will be held on Sunday 29 June 2025, with the committee and Council striving to build on the event.

The committee set the following key objectives:

*             Sustainability
*             Lift the status of the event (including Accreditation)
*             Increase the number of participants
*             More Marathon runners
*             Increase the enjoyment for participants and spectators
*             Promote physical activity
*             Stimulate the local economies of Port Augusta and Quorn
*             Showcase the Flinders Ranges.

Mayor Ken Anderson said that he was excited by the reinvigorated focus of the committee and is fully supportive of the proposed changes, including the finish line change.

“I appreciate that the Pichi Richi Marathon has a long history and has had various finish lines throughout that time, however, for many years Council has been looking at ways to connect the participants, spectators, the community and local businesses better.  The change of the location of the finish line is just one of the ways to do this, and I thank the Pichi Richi Marathon Committee, that includes two runner representatives, for their foresight and input.”

With the marathon starting in Port Augusta and traversing the Pichi Richi Pass, the new finish line will be on First Street, between Sixth and Seventh Streets in Quorn in the heart of the CBD and in close proximity to the Arts Precinct.

“The Arts Precinct is the perfect location for gathering after the race with a grassed area, family spaces, food, drinks and plenty of seating.  The Quorn Markets are also on that Sunday, so we will encourage them set up outside and add to the vibe and fun atmosphere for the supporters and participants.” Mayor Anderson said.

As the event draws nearer other changes will be introduced including a new registration system and increased promotion. Mayor Anderson said, “Our marathon is known for being one of the most scenic but gruelling events, and we want to celebrate everyone who participates, no matter what distance they cover or what time they do, walk or run, The 5km’ers of today will become the full marathoners of the future.”

With registrations opening on 3 February 2025, visit the Official event website and Official Facebook page for the latest news and updates. “I am very excited to see this event grow and look forward to the future for it and the community.” Mayor Anderson concluded.
